Dammtor (waiting), stereo audio duration 09:04 (2009)
This piece originated as a single take field recording from Dammtor station in Hamburg, and explores the area between noise and music. No instruments have been used. Instead the original recording has been treated to bring out the notes that already exist in the ambient sounds.
What is interesting to me is the symbiosis; how the music reinforces the feeling of waiting at a station, and how the noises bring a sense of place to the music. In this way what we hear becomes a carrier for an underlying truth, a translation of the world which releases the potential of the original recording.
